Learning the History of Tungsten Rings

Filed under: Garb, Jewelers Hall, Life Of Lifestyle — admin @ 9:57 pm

Many people are starting to like tungsten rings. And you can’t really blame them. These rings have great qualities that you won’t find in other accessories. But did you know how tungsten rings came about?

The main material used in these rings is tungsten carbide. This is type of metal, discovered in 1781 by Carl Wilhem Scheele, that is very tough. It’s colored gray and can be found in different ores like wolframite. Tungsten was primarily used in mining and mechanical applications.

Tungsten was not immediately used for rings. During the twentieth century, the metal was first used by the Germans to replace diamonds. They found out that when the metal was combined with other metals like tantalum and titanium, the metal becomes a lot tougher. It was then popular for cutting and milling steel and iron.

It was widely-used during the Second World War for weapons. Tungsten’s characteristics made it a very good choice for making destructive weapons to use against the enemy.

It was still being used in mining and weaponry when another use of tungsten was discovered. When combined with cobalt, the element created a hard shiny metal that is ideal for making jewelry.

Tungsten was then used to make rings. Tungsten rings are very hard; you won’t be able to bend or break it easily. It also has the ability to retain its own shine, so you don’t need to clean it often. But even though it is considered as a very tough material, it is easily removed in times of emergencies.

Jewelers now think this is a very good material to use in their creations because of its strength. It will not easily yield to scratches, bends, and pressure. It also has the ability to fight rust and retain its natural shine, so constant cleaning is not required.

Tungsten rings are more than beautiful. They are excellent pieces to wear simply because they have all the qualities you want in jewelry: strength, durability, luster and beauty. There’s no doubt about it, tungsten rings are the best choice.
