Slow Playing My Aces
I was playing in an online poker tournament last week, and I was having a pretty lousy night. I’d been getting weak cards for the most par and I had managed to stick around by buying a few pots and getting lucky on the flop. I’m not the most patient guy in the world, so after a few hours of sitting around and scraping by, I was pretty ecstatic when I lifted my hole cards and saw a pair of Aces looking up at me.
The poker table had been pretty aggressive all night-there were two or three guys at the table who had a tendency to buy up a lot of pots, and two of them had a tendency to turn things into a pissing contest. Lousy situation when you don’t have the cards, but it’s great news if you’ve got a solid hand. I’d been playing slowly all night, so I figured that a big bet would have clued everyone in to my strength, so I checked and hoped that the aggressors would do the work for me. Turns out that they did, a few raises and re-raises, and before I knew it, all three of us were all-in before the flop, and I didn’t have to do a darn thing. Another Ace on the flop made the deal even sweeter, and my set held up to the river. It pays to know who you’re playing with when you’ve got a solid hand at Everest Poker FR.
