Queensland Premier Releases Preliminary Plans for 2018 Commonwealth Games
Queensland State Premier Anna Bligh has reportedly released the preliminary plans in terms of needed infrastructure for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. The state plans to bid for the right to host the Games and plans it to be staged in Gold Coast.
Bligh will be travelling to New Delhi, India this week to meet with the Games officials to discuss ideas.
The plans are said to have been unveiled on the state parliament. According to reports, the ideas that she plans to share to the officials would be how to accommodate this prestigious international sporting event especially since this is a well-attended event.
The investigation has been finalized by the state government, revealing that Gold Coast is ready to host a large event and is fit to bid.
Here are some of the infrastructure plans outlined by the Premier:
- New velodrome
- Upgraded and enhanced badminton courts
- Upgraded Gold Coast aquatics center
- Expansion of Carrara Stadium
- Creation of boxing, weightlifting and squash courts
The Warner Brothers sound studio in the city can be made as the broadcast and media center. If there’s a need for this, other sporting events can be hosted by neighboring towns such as Cairns, Townsville and Brisbane.
The cost of the project could be nearly $1 billion but this can generate 30,000 additional jobs for the next ten years, not to mention boost the tourism in the state.
