Adwords, Adsense, SEO - Common Denominator, Keywords

Filed under: Commerce Opps — admin @ 7:32 pm

If you have just put up a website, you probably all ready have heard words like: keywords, Google Adwords, GoogleAdsense, SEO. Adwords, Adsense, SEO have one thing in common -
Keywords. How important are keywords? Very Important.

Google Adwords

Adwords, be it through Google, Miva, or any pay-per-click search engines, you need keywords. With Adwords, you create a three-line ad - 25 word title, with two 35 word lines of ad copy - then you create your keywords. To get the hits, you have to brainstorm for different keywords, that are different but relevant to your target audience. Sound easy? It’s not. It takes time, patience, constant tweaking, and hoping that the product you are selling is not already saturated — to much competition, makes it a little more difficult for the novice to make a profit.

Google Adsense

Google Adsense is an advertising program created by Google, and which is beginning to be explored by other search engines, such as Yahoo and MSN - that allows you to put targeted ads on your
website. If someone clicks on the ad, you earn a small amount of money. These ads are keyword driven and are relevant to your webpage or website.

Sounds simple? Well, not really. There is more too it than just putting an ad on your website and expecting someone to click on it. What’s involved? Let’s see - color, position, style, to name just a few.

SEO

Search engine optimization - this for me has been a time-consuming process - since I am still learning. SEO is keyword driven - the search engines pull the keywords from your web copy - not, to my surprise, from the meta keywords tag. Granted, I still use the meta keywords tag, but maybe in the near future, I will slowly eliminate the tag from my webpages…
The search engines do, however, pull information from Meta Description, Meta Title, and the content of your webpages. Thus, content does reign supreme.

Since content reigns supreme, each page should contain useful content and most importantly, your most relevant keywords that you want to emphasize. Secondly, it is best to try and base your keywords around a central theme. I have found that when the keywords diverts away from the main theme - that sends a red flag to search engines. So, if you want to look at your keywords and the density of the keywords on your webpage or webpages - You can get a quick rundown at:
http://www.ranks.nl/tools/spider.html . It’s a free tool, and very helpful.

To conclude, keywords is one of the main ingredients that leads people to your website, product, service and/or ad. …AND, keywords based around your quality content will help with your
positioning on your website.

Woodworking Beginners: Can You Really Start Without Knowing These Secrets?

Filed under: Life Of Lifestyle — admin @ 7:20 pm

Woodworking: Where To Start - Tips From Experienced Woodworkers

Woodworking encompasses a broad area of skills, specialties, and
applications. Some beginners take on too much too soon or blow
their savings on expensive woodworking tools and machines that
they don’t know how to use and might not ever need. And even
some basic techniques can be confusing or easy to do
incorrectly. Experienced woodworkers have some simple, but
insightful tips to help you get off to a good start.

Do Your Research Initiative, courage, a sense of adventure,
these are all good things, and many fine woodworkers learned
their skills by just jumping in and trying to build something.
Chances are whatever they chose for their first project, it came
out better than they thought, but not really nice enough to use
or display. Even those brave souls that start from scratch with
no preparation often end up seeking out some books, magazines,
or experienced woodworkers to figure out how to do it right.

The woodworkers we talked to stressed that a person can save
themselves some time and frustration by learning about the
different aspects of woodworking before starting a first
project. Many suggested finding some good books or magazines,
either at the library for free or at the bookstore. Start with
the basics and learn about different forms of woodworking, types
of trees and woods and how they are used, various tools, etc. -
just the kind of information presented here in this article.

“I have an entire corner of my garage filled with books and
magazines,” shared Paul Johnson, who has been woodworking since
he was a young boy. “I subscribe to a couple and keep those that
have projects or techniques that I would like to try. I also buy
a couple new books every year. When I first started woodworking,
I bought them left and right; whenever I came across one that
was recommended or had information I wanted to learn. They help
give me ideas for projects,” he added. “I especially like those
that come with patterns.”

After learning about the basics, you should have an idea of what
type of woodworking interests you, and you can move on to books
or even classes that teach hands on skills in that particular
area.

Take Some Classes In fact taking classes was recommended by
several of our experts. Whether it’s a beginning class through
the local college or something taught by an experienced
woodworker, it will typically give you a good overview of
different tools and woodworking safety. Some building centers
and lumberyards also offer classes on basics or teach you how to
make a specific project.

If you aren’t big on classes, but you know a person who is
skilled in woodworking, ask if they would let you assist them
with a project, or perhaps just sit and observe. Most
woodworkers are pleased to talk about their art and share it
with others. Chances are they will be happy to oblige.

Keep It Simple The answer, “Keep it simple,” came up over and
over, when asked for advice for new woodworkers. Start with
simple projects, preferably those that use only hand tools. This
way, you will learn how to do the important things like measure,
cut, shape and join. Getting good at those basic skills is
extremely important.

If you are brand new to woodworking and haven’t used tools much
before, you might want to consider starting with a precut kit.
Most kits consist of wood that is already cut in the appropriate
shapes and sizes. It is up to you to follow the directions and
put the pieces together. These kits typically require nailing,
screwing, gluing, sanding, and finishing. You can make
birdhouses and feeders, benches, plant holders, and many other
fun items to get you started.

Even as you advance to more complex projects, don’t worry about
planning and sizing your own lumber until you feel comfortable
and confident. You can buy lumber already prepped and cut in
many different widths. And table legs, chair spindles, and other
turned pieces are also readily available pre-made. Ease into
some of those more difficult projects over time, adding greater
levels of difficulty to each project.

Tool Tips The suggestions to keep it simple applied to
woodworking tools as well. Most people interviewed recommended
buying tools as you need them and adding to your selection as
required for new projects. If a project is purchased as a kit,
or with printed instructions, the list of tools needed is
included. Depending on what type of projects you choose to start
with, you will typically need hammers, tape measure, clamps, a
square, saws, hand drills, and a set of chisels. These will
probably cost you around $200-$300 dollars.

Some woodworkers said that investing in a good table saw early
on was important, but only if you will be doing projects with
many cuts, especially those with different types of angles. For
most beginner projects, a handsaw, or perhaps a circular saw
will suffice.

It is strongly suggested that you begin by buying good tools,
but not top grade until you decide for certain that you want to
stick with woodworking. If it becomes clear that this will be an
ongoing interest, then consider buying the best quality tools
you can afford. Best quality doesn’t always mean the most
expensive, and you will have to do your research.

Kevin Warner, who has been teaching high school shop for over
twenty years, had this to say about woodworking tools. “At
school, I have a limited budget for tools, but I would rather
buy a few high quality tools and have the kids share them than
spend my money on cheap equipment. There’s nothing that will
turn a young beginner away from woodworking quicker than a
crappy tool that doesn’t do what it should.”

The same is true for home woodworking. Our experts recommended
spending as much as you could afford on the basic tools like
hammers, saws, screwdrivers, drills and bits. “These are tools
you will need around the house even if you don’t pursue
woodworking,” Sarah Greeley pointed out. “If you spend the money
up front, and care for them correctly, these tools will last you
a lifetime because you bought quality to begin with.”

If you have a tight budget, consider purchasing tools at an
estate sale, auction or garage sale. Some may have worn handles
or look like they are rusty or dirty, but if they are quality
tools and generally sound, you can clean and repair them for
less than it would cost to purchase new.

In general, you get what you pay for with woodworking tools, but
sometimes you pay for the name, or for features that you may not
use in your particular type of woodworking. So again, you will
need to refer to books, magazines, Web sites, and other
woodworkers to learn more about different types and brands of
tools. And so you see, the tips have brought you full circle,
back to the research and learning, which is what so many
woodworkers stressed the most.

There is much to learn and, as has been said, it is an ongoing
process. But thanks to the wealth of information out there about
different aspects of woodworking, and the many Web sites and
Internet resources, it is easy to research your questions. You
just have to take the time.

How do I Use a Website to Promote my Business?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 7:36 am

Do you need a website?. Well that depends entirely on how you wish to market your business and whether your competitors have an online presence, it also depends on the type of clients you hope to attract. Let me ask you a straight question - Do you want to increase business for a minimum outlay?.

Most people now have some form of access to the internet, whether at home, at work or through their school or university. For many, searching for a service or product using Google is now much the prefered alternative to opening a phone directory, or scanning the Yellow Pages. With the increase in Broadband technology and the rapid fall in prices then this trend is very likely to continue and grow, with more and more people of all ages having some form of regular internet use. Do you want to miss out on this potential and growth?

Many small business owners and CEOs think nothing of spending hundreds or even thousands of pounds on conventional advertising such as that in Yellow Pages and similar directories, and yet are still missing out on the earning potential of having a website presence. For some this is simply through not having the relevant skills or feeling that they have no webdesign capabilities to even begin to build their own site. However with many webhosts now offering WYSIWYG web creation tools and web builder packages, anybody who is capable of booting a computer now has the possibility of creating a basic website to promote their business.

After word of mouth, my website accounts for nearly all of the new business which my own business gets. Given a price versus revenue comparison, it is the most competitive form of advertising which I have ever used, and the one which yields the most success when it comes to new business leads!.

Remember that the more professional your website looks, the greater chance of impressing potential clients, and of getting an enquiry. For this reason, employing the services of a webdesigner may be a prefered alternative. But for now, let’s talk about how you can build your website with only limited knowledge. Your options are popular software such as Microsoft FrontPage, or other software such as x-site pro. Many internet users have found great success in designing their own websites. Some webhosts now include free website building tools in their hosting packages. Whichever option you decide to choose, when building your website and promoting its existance, there are a few points to consider, and we will discuss those below.

Always avoid free hosting. These are webhosts who allow you to upload your own site for free onto their server. However in return they often add Advertising banners and pop ups onto your website, and these can prove very annoying to internet users, look cheap and tacky and do not portray a professional, business image. You may have a very professional looking website, however if you use free hosting then you do so at your peril and when masses of pop ups great your visitors, then they’ll often close their browsers or surf away without bothering to read any further. Professional webhosting without any form of banners is available for as little as the price of a coffee per month! - far cheaper than any form of newspaper advertising, so don’t skimp when it comes to reliable hosting.

Buy a domain name. This promotes your unique company identity, and it is also a good idea to use your company name, as your domain name. Domains ending in .co.uk are often cheaper than .com and will also boost your search engine rankings in geographical area based searches such as google UK. This may be useful to businesses only serving clients in their country, or those with overseas offices.

Remember to try and incorporate a relevant keyword describing your business service or product(s) within the domain page name. So for example, if you had a business called Acme Widgets and you had a product called Mighty Widget - then you could name the page name extension as mighty-widget.html so the url to that page would look like http://www.your-domain-name.com/mighty-widget.html

We will get to other keyword use later.

The most effective websites are the ones which load fast and offer a clean, smooth appearance free of useless information and which are largely uncluttered. Make sure that your name and description of your business appears on each page, and that if your site has more than one page that they are all linked together using an HTML Menu. Do not be tempted to use flash or other fancy image type menus, because search engines will not be able to index the site easily. If you do decide to use a flash based website then make sure that there is an HTML alternative, complete with HTML menus.

Keep the site simple. Remember that you have to make the site appealing to search engine spiders as well as human visitors in order to get your website onto the search engines. After all, it is pointless having a good, professional looking site, if nobody can find it!. Avoid the use of fancy flash based websites and splash pages, although they may add an initial wow factor to the first impression, they are often difficult for some search engines to spider and index, plus they may take forever to load on a slow connection. Very few visitors will wait 30 seconds or more for pages to load, or install special viewers so avoid going over the top with these types of presentation!

Keywords are the words that people use to enter into search engines in order to find a site. Consider which keywords people will be using to find your website. Don’t just concentrate on the obvious and most popular words which describe your business, since these will be difficult to rank highly for, due to the competition!.

Instead, look for other niche search terms and phrases too. Your website should contain as many keywords as possible on each page. Don’t be tempted to just add loads of raw keywords in meaningless strings onto your page, since search engines are wise to this practice of cheating and will penalise your site, plus it looks messy to your human visitors too!. It is far more effective to incorporate these keywords into text paragraphs and try and vary their frequency, so for example if you were a company suppling widgets in London, you could try the following:-

Widget and Sons, a family company suppling widgets in London, we are retailers of the popular Mighty widget range

And then later in the page…

For the best price on mail order widgets and sole distribution of the mighty widget contact our sales department

By doing this, and varying the phrases whilst keeping them keyword rich, you are effectively giving Google something to work with. Hopefully, by adding as many keyword strings as possible your site will (hopefully) appear for several different search terms such as ‘Widgets’ or ‘Mail order widgets + london’ or ‘Mighty Widget’

A Picture paints a thousand words, so don’t forget to add pictures to your website!. But keep the, fairly small so that the site loads quickly. Often 640 x 480 resolution is ideal, or use thumbnail software to load a gallery of clickable smaller images neatly onto a webpage. Remember if you use images that clients like to see happy smiling staff! and a structured, well organised company, so make sure that you don’t accidentally capture your warehouse man reading the paper, or that rubbish in the corner of the office!.

Unless your business is technical or technology based then avoid long descriptions about specifications of products and what machinery you use!. Comparing equipment is only of interest to others in the same industry as you and rarely of concern or top priority clients just looking to buy and end product or obtain service. Besides they can see just how good and how neat and tidy your business looks from your pictures!.

Always display clearly your contact information, and this should include a telephone number. Avoid Hotmail and other free web email addresses such as MSN or Yahoo because this doesn’t look professional and can also be blocked by your recipients spam filter. If you have registered a domain name for your site you will be able to set up email based on this, and cutomise it to your own requirements, for example:- sales@widget.com or enquiries@widget.com . Offering an enquiry form on your website is also a good idea, since it will prevent your email address being copied from your site to be used for Spam (Unsolicited Emails), and ensure that you have all of the relevant information from the client to be able to quote accurately.

Getting your site onto the search engines is the hardest part of the excercise, and this may take between 3 and 12 months to get a decent rank. The more you promote your site the easier it is, and the more successful the results. Simply submitting your site URL to Google’s Submit a Site page is not the most effective way of listing your site and neither is it the quickest. The most effective way of getting your site visited by Search Engines is to add your link to Existing websites of a similar theme and subject and the many online directories which already have a search engine presence.

Another very effective way of boosting search engine presence and getting your website onto search engines quicker is to swap links with other sites. Why not build a simple links page or invest in a topsites script on your website and use this to return links?. Remember that it is only polite internet etiquette to link back to websites which link to you, so it is often expected that you will have a link already in place on your own website, when you contact another webmaster and ask to add your link to his /her site!.

There are many other features which you can build into your website, such as e-commerce features including shopping carts and credit card processing facilities, if your company offers products by mail order. However adding these usually requires some detailed knowledge of website building and other skills in website code and is therefore outside of the scope of this article.

Hopefully, this website article, has given you some information on getting your business a web presence on a budget!.

Email Newsletter Software is Easy to Use

Filed under: Software Management — admin @ 11:40 pm

If you have never used email newsletter software before don’t worry, using email newsletter software is easy. You won’t have to learn another complicated piece of software in order to send out email newsletters using email newsletter software. With step by step tutorials and easy to follow instructions you can send out a new email newsletter using email newsletter software in just minutes. Using email newsletter software is fast and easy. If you have put together email newsletters by hand in the past then you already know how frustrating and time consuming it can be to struggle with the layout of an email newsletter but using some state of the art email newsletter software can make the process of creating an email newsletter much simpler and a lot less time consuming. When you’re in business you don’t have time to waste on things like formatting an email newsletter so it just makes sense to use some of the new email newsletter software programs that will format your email newsletter for you and send it to all the customers who have signed up to receive your email newsletter. There’s no doubt that email newsletters can be a very effective marketing tool but email newsletters are only effective marketing tools if they make you and your business look good. If you send out an email newsletter that is full of mistakes or isn’t formatted properly your customers aren’t going to want to learn more about your products and they might even unsubscribe from your email list. Using high quality email newsletter software can ensure that all the email newsletters that you send out are formatted correctly and look great so that customers will be impressed and will want to learn more about the products that you’re talking about in the email newsletter.

You can also use the same email newsletter software that you use to create high impact newsletters for email marketing to create informative and exciting ebooks. Ebooks are very trendy right now and many businesses are jumping into the ebook market. If you have high quality email newsletter software you can use that software to format ebooks that you can send to your customers once they have purchased the ebook. The sale can be completed online and the customer receives the book in an email. Ebooks can add another revenue stream to your website or you can create ebooks as a stand alone product. Try using your email newsletter software to make up an ebook and you’ll see how fast and easy it can be to create an ebook the same way that you create an email newsletter. The key to marketing on the Internet is to use all the tools available to get your product out there and to drive traffic to your website.

5 of the best money making ideas you can use today to earn a boatload of cash online.

Filed under: Business World — admin @ 4:12 pm

Essentially there are 5 tremendously powerful methods to make
money online. These methods were not always available but have
only become available due to the large amount of internet
commerce being conducted each and every day online. While it is
possible to make money, and lots of it, using other methods,
these are in my opinion the best for 3 reasons. First, they are
some of the cheapest methods around. Imagine running a business
for an entire year where your total cost was less than $1 a day.
Secondly, these methods are fast to implement. Some of the
methods can have you up and running in hours, if not only a day
or two. Lastly, these ideas are simple. When it comes to working
online, simpler is better and complex is dead.

The 5 Best Money Making Ideas.

ONE. Making Money the Google Cash Way.
Google
Cash is a term coined by Chris Carpenter. In his amazing
ebook, he teaches you how to start a profitable advertising
business by using Google Adwords to promote products to people
using the Google search engine. The strategy is simple. You
create ads to attract interested people. When they click on your
ad you are charged for that click. The visitor is directed to
your site where you can sell them your product or someone
else’s. The advantage is you get to leverage the Google traffic.
You can purchase clicks for as low as 5 cents. Lastly, done
properly, you can test dozens of different ads and campaigns
allowing you to perfect your selling system.

TWO. Making tons of money selling someone else’s
stuff.

Affiliate marketing is the manner in which you
market a product for someone else, known as the merchant. In
return for providing a qualified buyer, the merchant agrees to
pay you a commission. The beauty of this type of business is
that you can take advantage of hot products, you can easily
create a large cash flow by setting up dozens of small income
streams promoting hundreds of products. In other words, the
business is scalable. Once you learn to make money selling a
product for one merchant, you can reproduce that for another.
For this to work, the critical step that you need to master is
getting traffic. An absolute master, who I consider the king of
the affiliate business is James
Martell. He is the author of The Affiliate Marketing
Handbook (newly revised for 2005). James has hundreds of income
streams and can teach anyone how to promote and sell products
for merchants online.

THREE. Turn Treasure into Dollars with eBay.
In case
this is your first week using the internet, I will briefly
explain eBay. They are the world’s largest online auction
system. People from all over the world, lots of people, using it
each and ever day to sell everything from toasters to Hummers.
In order to make
money on eBay, you research what is selling at the moment,
source that product for at great price and then start creating
auctions. Of course, that all sounds easy, but the truth is
there is a lot of work involved, especially if you have to ship
all those products from your house. If you are organized, can
research or can use the software to do that research for you,
and can negotiate with suppliers than you can really make money
with eBay.

FOUR. Drop Ship It.
The thought of storing boxes and
boxes of products at your house may have you running away from
eBay. Thank goodness there is something called Drop Shipping. A
drop shipper is a wholesaler who will sell you their products at
near wholesale prices and ship them directly to your customer.
World
Wide Brands maintains a directory of wholesaler and drop
shipping companies giving you access to over 2 million products
to sell on eBay. The good news is that once you have access to
your own products, you can now use the first three methods to
market them. Do you see the power now? Maybe you used the first
two methods to market someone else’s product. Now you can get a
better profit margin by drop shipping your own products using
these same methods.

FIVE. Write yourself rich.
The first 4 methods
involved selling someone else’s products for a commission or
profit margin. If you want to make the most money, you have to
produce and sell your own products. An exceptional item to sell
online is information. In particular, ebooks, software, audio
and video products have incredible profit margins. But, you
think, you have no writing skills. What are you to do? Easy,
hire people to do the work for you. This is an amazing way to
leverage the skills of someone else. Pretend you have an idea
for a new software program. There is a site online called Rent a
Coder where you can hire people to work for you. Depending
on your product idea, you can get the software coded for $100,
$200, maybe even $300. Then the product is yours to resell. You
can keep 100% of the profits. You can do the same thing writing
a book. Steve Manning offers a free course that will teach you
how
to write a book in as little as 14 days. I know that sounds
to good to be true but it can be done. Most of Steve’s students
take longer than that on the first book but many admit that they
can do it faster by preparing better at the beginning.

There you have it. The 5 best ways of making money online. It
is now up to you to master one or more of these ideas. If you
need more help getting started, you can download my 25 page
ebook named “The Best Money Making Ideas” for no charge.
Inside, I elaborate on each of the 5 methods identified above.

Leadership: Character is Key

Filed under: Management Resources — admin @ 12:07 pm

Whether you want to become a leader, or have already earned your way into a position of leadership, your character is the key component to your success. When placed in a management role, one of two scenarios often exists:

A. the manager is a stranger to those they manage, having come in from outside the company, and has prevented other people from moving into the role

B. the manager is known to everyone they manage, and used to be a peer, resulting in a variety of biases, familiarity issues, and again, has prevented other people from moving into the role.

Even if the new manager is well respected, they are now under greater scrutiny, and boundaries will be tested on both sides of the fence. A leader’s character will determine the level of trust and morale their team can develop, and ultimately the team’s ability to achieve set goals.

Characteristics of a Leader

Transparency - the ability to acknowledge one’s imperfections, and deal with them publicly in such a way as to build trust and honesty among the team. If a strategy or directive fails, take responsibility, and work to make adjustments that suit you and your team while still aligning with corporate goals.

Trustworthiness - remember the “open door” policy must go both ways. Team members will often come to you not to discuss their own issues, but their issues with others. Discouraging backbiting from the outset is important, but when it inevitably occurs, walk out your “open door” and talk to the person being discussed quickly, then bring the parties together if necessary to resolve any issues. Distrust begins behind close doors that never re-open.

Emotional Stability - when mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy. You control the temperature of the office. Your staff looks to you to tell them when to be happy, sad, excited, irate, frustrated and fulfilled. If your office seems to be on an emotional roller-coaster, look at yourself in the mirror first, before blaming those you influence.

Self-Control - handling extreme situations extremely well. Pick your time, environment, and words well ahead of time before dealing with any highly charged situation. Rash conversations and actions are almost always regretted, and difficult to explain, both to team members, and those who lead YOU.

Discipline - reflect the work ethic you expect from your own position. When your team knows you are working as hard as they are, or harder, not only will they work hard, but they are less likely to harbor resentments. If your team starts slacking off when they see you working harder, it’s time to re-evaluate your team.

Hospitable - willing to let people in. You don’t need to invite them over for a barbecue, or start a bowling team, though neither is a bad idea. Let them into your personality, include them in your successes (especially since they might be the source of many of them), and be open about losses (loss of a parent, etc.) - it makes you human.

Knowledgeable - be ready with answers. Know your job, their job, and the jobs of their competitors and clients. Or at least know where they can go to get the answer. Don’t want to be peppered with questions? Train them to find their own answers, and live with the results - or find a new profession.

Generous - with money, time, and most importantly, praise. Give back to your employees without taking credit for doing so. A Friday pizza party is great until the boss takes credit for doing it. Work with your employees one-on-one to mentor them. And always be ready with a compliment - a real compliment. Learn what praise your team-member require, it will be different for each.

Positive - regardless of the circumstances. Never get caught in the undertow - when the leader goes down, the team ceases to function. Be real, and acknowledge setbacks, but always be ready with a solution and encouragement.

Decisive - make timely and informed choices. Morale drops when uncertainty builds. If a new commission structure is being built, either announce it only upon completion of the details, or include your team on the decision-making process, setting a deadline for deployment.

These 10 Characteristics are developed through action and repetition. No one can be perfect in all things, but by striving for these behaviors, we improve ourselves both in and out of the office, and build stronger relationships with our employees, and hence, a stronger team.

Evaluate yourself against this list. Where are your strengths and weaknesses? When have you seen these characteristics fail or succeed in your own leaders? Once you’ve determined where you need to improve, start actively taking new actions and take notes regarding their effectiveness. You will be amazed at the difference. And so will your team.

Now and again the calendar is played with a little bit & there are motor races on back-to-back weekends, or occasionally you have to go a number of weeks before seeing the famous Formula One drivers again. Once it is time for the next F1 race, you can scrutinize the news for your desired Formula One constructor as they get to their destination. Derek Anderson Traded to Miami

Filed under: Hall Of Sports — admin @ 9:39 am

Pat Riley proved his dislike of rookies even more when he traded rookie Gerald Fitch to the Rockets today for Derek Anderson.

This trade basically showed how little tolerance the Rockets have. Derek Anderson is a far better player than Gerald Fitch when healthy but Fitch is an able body and can at least play. The Rockets had been trying to trade him for weeks but settled on a rookie averaging 4.7 PPG.

Anderson does fit the role of a Riley team. His veteran perimeter offense could help Miami if he’s able. Really this is just the Heat’s way of picking up another old player right before the trade deadline (last year it was for Steve Smith). Even if he doesn’t work out it won’t hurt Miami since they only gave up their 3rd string PG.

Houston brought in Anderson strictly to help out McGrady. After playing only 20 games the Rockets continue to look for a deeper supporting cast for he and Yao. But with that being their biggest move this year it shouldn’t make the Rockets a better team.

For the Miami Heat, it will all boil down to the health of Shaq and Wade. The rest of all this trade jargon is just meant to keep pressure off the team.

Headaches-Relief at Last!

Filed under: Health Parlor — admin @ 10:29 am

Every year, billions of dollars are spent on medication to relieve headaches. Billions more are lost due to time away from work for headache sufferers. Why do we have so many headaches and what can be done about them?

Janet Travell, M.D. was the White House Physician under Presidents Kennedy and Johnson who wrote the landmark textbook Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction. Dr. Travell estimated that 90% of pain in the head, neck, and face was due to painful muscles.

As dentists, we know that if the bite is not balanced, pain and other symptoms can develop. This is commonly known as TMD (or TMJ). Our jaw is supported by a sling of muscles that guide our teeth together in our habitual bite. If our bite is in harmony with our muscles, everything feels good. But if our muscles have to strain on a regular basis just to bring our bite together, symptoms can develop. These symptoms take the form of headaches, neck and shoulder pain, feelings of ear congestion, dizziness, and other symptoms not commonly considered “dental.”

How do we know if our symptoms are bite related and what can be done? First of all, it is always a good idea to check with your physician to make sure that nothing serious is going on. Next, talk to your dentist to find out if your symptoms could be related to your bite. If your bite is the problem, there is incredible technology available which allows your dentist to find the most comfortable position for your bite. Once this position is found, your dentist can make you an orthotic (nightguard) for you to wear which allows your jaw to rest in this most comfortable position. Oftentimes, just wearing the orthotic relieves the symptoms.

If it is decided that this comfortable jaw position is the correct position for you in the long run, your dentist can use braces or advanced dentistry to change your bite.

In the dental field, we have seen amazing advances in pain relief. If you think you may be suffering needlessly, talk to your dentist.
